Living and Enjoying Torino

Thanks to the brilliant energy of the Savoy’s, Torino was one of the most important center of European art and architecture in the 17th and 18th centuries.
In the second half of the 19th century, Torino became the first capital city of Italy after having been the leading city in the Italian Risorgimento.

Nowadays, Torino presents itself as an elegant and cosmopolitan city, World Design Capital 2008, with a perfect mix of industrialization and aesthetics.

Even if Torino has almost one million inhabitants you will not find so many "native" piedmontese but it could happen to hear some dialectal expressions such as

Andüma mac sounds like "andooma muk" and means … let’s go!
Cüma lè? sounds like "Coomalè ?" and means … How are you?
Ch’a staga bin  sounds like "kɑ stagha bi:n" and means… take care!
Cerea!  sounds like "tʃe re ə" and means… Bye!
Parla pà!  sounds like "Pɑrlɑ  pɑ"  literary it means "shut up" but they use this expression manly to say Wow!, Gosh!

All year round Torino is a roll-on of art, culture, cinema and music initiatives and shows, check our news section in the Welcome Page that will be updated for you very often.
