Taxi
It is not customery to hail a taxi on the street, on the contrary you have to reach the Call Center by phone or on line where you can also book a ride in advance. The most efficient are
Radiotaxi (english version web site), telephone contact 011.5730, and
Prontotaxi5737 (only italian version), telephone contact 011.5737.
Public transportation
The most efficient way to visit the city is getting around by public transport (buses, trams and subway), especially in the city center, because moving by car becomes really difficult both for parking and for the Restricted Traffic Area (the so called
ZTL), that forbid the passage to non-residents from 7.30 to 10.30 a.m. Parking rules: as resident you can request an annual permit (€ 40,00) for the specific area of the town. Currently the first driveless, ultra-modern underground line was opened for the Olympic Games in 2006. Both urban and suburban areas are served by an efficient network; buses and trams cross the city from early morning to late at night. For more information visit

Public transportation tickets
Before heading to the bus stop, drop by a tobacco shop, newsstand or Internet café to buy a ticket, as you usually can’t do so onboard.
Validate it at a small machine on the bus and remember, the ticket lasts for a certain amount of time rather than a single ride.
